Quick answer

On many motorboats, a few knots can change fuel burn sharply. That is why SkipperCalc uses speed and litres per hour, not a generic average.

Base formula: litres = distance ÷ speed × fuel burn L/h
cost = litres × price per litre

Why is L/h not enough?

A higher speed may burn more per hour while covering more miles. The comparable number is €/nm or L/nm.

What if I do not know my fuel burn?

Start with a similar listed model if available, or use a conservative figure and replace it once measured.
