Swing radius

A geometric estimate of swing space.

Model and limitations

Radius = √(deployed rode² − seabed-to-roller height²) + boat length + clearance
Diameter = 2 × radius

A straight, taut rode model over a flat seabed. Use the lowest expected vertical height to estimate the greatest horizontal reach. It excludes dragging, elasticity, waves, slope and movement of other boats. The selected clearance does not guarantee safe separation. A rode shorter than the vertical height is invalid geometry.
